After introspection and a few personal experiences, Jason decided to return to school and is currently in pursuit of a Master's degree in Physical Therapy, specializing in spinal cord injuries. Before joining Pressing On, he was a Physical/Occupational Therapist Technician at an outpatient rehab facility. Although he is a relative newcomer in the SCI world, Jason is no stranger to fitness. Stephanie Copeland

Administrative Assistant

StephanieStephanie is one of our east coast clients, born and raised in Richmond, VA. She participated in several sports, but traveling on a fast-pitch softball team was her life and passion. As the catcher and leader on the field, she encouraged her teammates to be all they could be and to never give up if they wanted it bad enough. Her physical endurance, unstoppable energy, and positive attitude from playing sports are what she believes prepared her for what was to come on April 14, 2004. An almost fatal car accident sent her to the Medical Center of VA (MCV) with broken ribs, a punctured lung, minor head injury and a broken back. The break in her spine smashed her spinal cord and left her paralyzed at the T10 level (waist down). She was given a “complete” diagnosis and doctors told her she would never walk again. With her trust and hope in God, she did not allow her paralysis to take charge of her life and she searched for more.
Stephanie moved to southern California for a year to work and workout at a program there. In June 2007, she graduated summa cum laude (top 1% of class) from Strayer University as a fulltime online student with her Bachelor’s in Business Administration (Management and HR focused). Her 4.0 GPA allowed her to join the Alpha Chi National Scholarship and Honor Society. Upon finishing her degree, she returned home to have her hardware removed from her back. Once she returned to CA, God led her to look for other options for work and therapy, which brought her to Pressing On to further her “steps” to recovery.
Stephanie’s passion is bringing hope to others with injuries and she hopes to use her education to open a facility back east in the future. Her first goal is to help us make this facility one of the best in the world. She performs several duties around the facility while also searching for individuals that could benefit from our services. While learning the business as she goes, she is committed and determined to accomplish her goal to walk again. She has made incredible gains here and continues to push herself everyday in the gym to reach her goal.

Sandi Smalley

Administrative Assistant

Sandi Smalley  Sandi Smalley moved to San Antonio from Port Lavaca in 2004 to attend UTSA. She pursued a degree in Kinesiology in hopes of one day becoming a physical therapist. After completing her third year of college she found out that she was soon going to become a mother. Shortly after this surprising news, her life completely changed. She was not only going to be a mom, but she came to Pressing On for a job interview for the receptionist position. She was unaware as to what type of facility it was until arriving that day. Jenny explained to her what they did at Pressing On and she could not have been more touched by what she had said. She says being a part of this group of people has changed her life so much. For the longest time she has had a heart to touch people, care for them, and let them know they are a blessing. So, in her eyes, physical therapy seemed like the choice for her, until she came to Pressing On. Her direction has since shifted. For the time being, she is a receptionist. However after her son is born she plans to train to become an Assistant Trainer. Then after she graduates, she will become a Trainer. She has seen so many lives changing in this place from the time she walked in. Physical Therapy is no longer what she has in mind; she plans to devote herself to Spinal Cord Injury Recovery.
